View to Pontoise

About this work

Pissarro lived in Pontoise, a town on the Oise north-west of Paris, on and off for more than ten years, and painted it again and again: the bridge, the factory chimneys, the houses on the bank.

The surface of the water is built of long rows of grey and pale-blue stones, almost without form, and the bridge with its blue arches is the only line that crosses them.
