One stone says nothing. Thousands of them, laid by hand over months, become a picture. Here are the films — what a photograph cannot show.

The «Mosaic Muse» exhibition

Givatayim Theatre gallery · September–October 2026

Every film of the exhibition in one place.

Mosaic Muse: the studio · moving day · hanging the exhibition

5:48 · August 2026 · Hebrew and English subtitles

Years of work in the studio, the mosaics hanging meanwhile on the walls of the artist's home. Then one morning: sixty works come off those walls, travel, and go up again. By the end of the film they stand on the gallery walls — and the walls of the house where they were made are bare.

Rami Alon speaks

4:15 · September 2026 · Hebrew and English subtitles

In the exhibition hall, in front of the works: why mosaic, how one starts at 67, what Klimt does to him, what he saw once the works were on the walls — and what he wants the viewer to feel.

His first mosaic was a table for his mother, made from broken plates and stones when he was twelve. He made the second fifty-five years later, from materials he gathered and broken cups the neighbours brought. In the days this was filmed he was at work on his ninth homage to Klimt — The Woman in Gold.

Three Pumpkins · from a block of foam to the gallery

0:56 · no speech · filmed 2022 and 2026

Video from the first days of the yellow pumpkin through to the three pumpkins on show in Mosaic Muse, September–October 2026, at the Givatayim Theatre gallery.

Four years pass between the first frame and the last. The white foam block Rami Alon carves in May 2022 did not disappear — it is the body that carries the mosaic, and it stands beneath it in the theatre hall in September 2026.

Doron Polak on Rami Alon · opening night

0:13 · 14 September 2026 · Hebrew and English subtitles

Thirteen seconds from the opening speech, and the applause that followed.

Doron Polak has curated in Israel and in Italy, including the first mosaic biennial held in Israel, in Netanya, with the mosaic museum in Ravenna. He said this in the hall, in front of the audience.

Mosaic is pixels

1:01 · 14 September 2026 · Hebrew and English subtitles

The curator asks the audience to put a question to the GPT — which art form is closest to the digital — and then answers it himself.

Mosaic is taken to be an ancient art, and in Israel it is identified with floors fifteen centuries old. A single stone inside a grid of stones is also the exact description of a pixel.

Jerusalem · the curator at the wall

0:49 · September 2026 · spoken in English

Doron Polak stops at the work during a tour with an international group, and asks his guests to give it time.

The work is almost three works. The old city is built of stone, and translating it into mosaic stone is — in the curator's words — obvious. Rami Alon's family has been in Jerusalem for a hundred and fifty years.
