About this work
Van Gogh painted the sunflowers in Arles in August 1888, to decorate Gauguin’s room in the Yellow House before he arrived. He wanted yellow on yellow — and with no contrast of colour, only the line separates flower from ground.
In Rami Alon’s hands that line is a seam of stone, and it is among the fastest in the exhibition.
