About this work
Friederike Maria Beer was a Viennese collector who commissioned her portrait from both Klimt and Schiele. She wore a dress designed at the Wiener Werkstätte, and Klimt filled the background with warrior figures taken from the Asian pictures in his studio. The painting hangs at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
The longest of any work in the exhibition. And the sharpest change of shape among the eight homages: Klimt painted a narrow column, 168 cm high by 79 wide; Rami Alon made a broad format, 109 by 144 cm.
It is also the only one of the eight whose original can be seen in Israel.
