About this work
Klimt painted Fräulein Lieser over nine sittings in 1917 and died before signing it. The picture vanished in the 1920s and was not seen for some ninety-nine years. It resurfaced in Vienna in 2024 and was sold under the Washington Principles in a settlement with the family’s heirs. Which young woman it shows is still disputed.
Here Rami Alon kept Klimt’s exact proportions — two to one, upright. And the timing is not accidental: he began work at the end of March 2024, only weeks after the world saw the painting for the first time in generations.
