About this work
Camille Pissarro lived at Louveciennes and painted its road again and again. During the Franco-Prussian War he fled to London, and Prussian soldiers billeted in his house destroyed some fifteen hundred paintings — nearly everything he had made up to the age of forty. He came back and began again: this painting is from 1872, a year later. The same road.
