This is the reverse of the same mosaic panel that carries "Boy in a Blue Jacket" on its other side. Modigliani painted both subjects in his last years in the south of France — the same long contour, the same flattening, the same indifference to perspective.

A painting on canvas is always one-sided. A mosaic has no "behind" — it has two surfaces, and Rami Alon used exactly that. Fifty working days in all, twenty-five for each face.
