About this work

Between 1964 and 1966 Marc Chagall made three tapestries for the Knesset, twelve floor mosaics in its lobby, and a large wall mosaic called "The Wailing Wall". He worked on them for three years.

This is the only work in the exhibition whose source is itself a mosaic. Everywhere else Rami Alon translates painting into stone; here he translates stone into stone — and from a work a short drive away, in the building where the laws of his own country are made.
